Green Tea Helps Eyesight

Beneficial ingredients in green tea penetrate into the tissues of the eye and may help protect against glaucoma and other eye diseases, says a new study.Researchers analyzed eye tissue from rats that drank green tea and found that the lens, retina and other tissues absorbed significant amounts of green tea catechins, which are antioxidants believed to protect the eye. Catechins include vitamin C, vitamin E, lutein and zeaxanthin.The action of the green tea catechins in reducing harmful oxidative stress in the eyes lasted for up to 20 hours. Something as simple as green tea can help protect your eyes seems astonishing to me, if I had this information before I would be drinking green tea everyday.

Shutter Island

I felt a little cheated by the "twist" in Shutter Island, but overall it was a good movie. Shutter Island is a movie about two cops investigating a mental institution where apparently government sponsored experiments on humans take place, and the main character is trying to investigate. Thematically it makes sense to me in terms of Martin Scorsese's work because I do think it was an effective character study. DiCaprio's performance blew me away though. I think he's really one of the best actors working and this was one of his best performances as far as I'm concerned.

Project Update

Our project is coming along very smoothly. We have quite a few scenes done and I would say we are atleast 30 percent completed. Our concept has changed a lot from when we first started. We now have two characters who have very different personallites, Neeraj's charater is outgoing and has a lot of friends, while Naeems's charaters struggles to make any friends and in simple terms; a loser. We show the deep contrast in the highschool life today and the difficulties of bieng a loner.

The Ipad

Apple's iPad was one of the hottest things on its first day of sales, it sold over 300,000 units. The new technology is absolutely incredible and the ease with with you can browse the web is extraordinary. This "new" technology isn't exactly new, its basically an iphone or itouch on some serious performance enhancing drugs. It has a 256 MB ram, which is lower than I expected from apple but the 1 Ghz processor , I think is good enough for the Ipad. I am pretty sure I will buy one when it is released in Canada because I love the my Itouch and the iPad it seems to be just a bigger, better, faster, ipod touch.

PLAYOFFS!!!

It’s NBA Playoffs time! I love me some playoffs, and in honor of the second season, I thought I’d lay down my picks for the various NBA awards.

Most Valuable Player:
LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers. Duh. I will be shocked if this isn’t unanimous. Actually, no I won’t, some jackass media member will vote for Dwight Howard or Kevin Durant, just to be different.

Rookie of the Year:
Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors. Yes, Tyreke Evans was more consistent and joined the elite 20-5-5 Rookie club, but Curry was the best rookie the last 4 months of the season, in a much harder situation – having to share the ball with Monta Ellis is the least desirable situation for a rookie point guard. Plus, Curry gets points for having the most beautiful stroke in the league, at least in my opinion. His percentages were also ridiculous: 46.2 FG%, 43.7 3PT%, and 88.8 FT%.

Defensive Player of the Year:
Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic. This one is too easy. As much as I like Josh Smith’s versatility on defense, Superman became the first player ever to lead the league in blocks and rebounds two years in a row. He’s going to win a lot of these before he’s done. Now, if he could only stop blocking everything into the upper deck…


Most Improved Player:
Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder. The hardest category to understand. I feel like good players are hampered by virtue of being good to start with. However, that’s bullshit, and Durantula definitely improved more than anyone in the league, rising into top 5 status, and winning the scoring title at 21. TWENTY-ONE. It’s scary to think about how good he could still become.

Fugative runs into prison

Police say a motorist fleeing officers in Cleveland abandoned his car and jumped a fence landing in what turned out to be a prison yard.
The chase started in that suburb early Monday over a traffic violation and reached speeds of 90 mph.
Police say that after a race through several communities, the driver and a passenger bolted from the car and headed for a fence.
They apparently did not realize it was on the outside the state women’s prison in Cleveland.
Criminal as stupid as these deserve to be in prison for the majority of their lives.

A Jordanian newspaper's April Fool's Day report chronicling a late-night visit by 10 foot tall aliens in flying saucers sparked public panic and almost led to the town's emergency evacuation, officials said Monday.

The Al Ghad newspaper published a front-page article April 1 about the fake UFO landing near the desert town of Jafr, some 300 kilometers from the capital, Amman. The report said the UFOs lit up the whole town, interrupted communications and sent fearful residents streaming into the streets.

I believe a reputable newspaper cannot get caught up in things like April fools and send an entire country into a frenzy.

Now That's Commitment

A New York City pizza deliveryman outwitted an armed robber trying to make off with his pies and still managed to deliver them to his customer.
As the Pizza guy headed to the 27th floor of the building where he was supposed to deliver his pizzas, he came across two men in a hallway who started harassing him, one of the men pulled out a gun and told him to drop the pizzas on the ground. As the gunman reached down, the delivery boy lunged at him, and toppled him off balance. He scuffled with the men as building security making a routine check came by,the two robbersd fled. After the ordeal he still managed to deliver his pizzas.

April Fools

In 1985 Sports Illustrated published a story about a new rookie pitcher who planned to play for the Mets. His name was Sidd Finch, and he could reportedly throw a baseball at 168 mph with pinpoint accuracy. This was 65 mph faster than the previous record. Surprisingly, Sidd Finch had never even played the game before. Instead, he had mastered the “art of the pitch” in a Tibetan monastery under the guidance of the “great poet-saint Lama Milaraspa.” Mets fans celebrated their teams’ amazing luck at having found such a gifted player, and Sports Illustrated was flooded with requests for more information. In reality this legendary player only existed in the imagination of the author of the article, George Plimpton.

Just too stupid in my opinion, if they said the guy could throw 125 mph maybe that would have made this one a little more realistic but only a dope-head from the 80’s would fall for this poorly crafted fool’s joke.

At the moment Naeem, Josh, Neeraj and I are in the Development state of creating our existentialism movie. We have a general idea of what we what to convey and we have a solid beginning and end. However the bulk of our movie, the middle, is still being generated.

For now, our movie is about two 17 year old guys attending his last year of high school as he realizes that none of his friends are true friends.

The beginning of the movie will start off with the main characters in a snippet of a Vlog where he says "life sucks". The movie then shows them going about their day and why their life sucks

During the middle their is a "trigger" which causes one of the characters to spiral down into thoughts of suicide and the other uses the experience to turn his life around.

Ali vs Liston

The Ali - Listen picture is one of the greatest picture in boxing history. Part of being a great photographer is being lucky enough to be in the right spot at the right time like this photographer was, but a more important part is not missing when you're in that spot. This photographer got very lucky at the Ali-Liston fight. Photographers mount their cameras on the light rigging above the ring before, only they had pointed them down, from the corners, so that they could capture the fighters' facial expressions. Ali looking down at Liston screaming and pounding his chest just made this picture magical.

Raptors loosing Focus

Ugly, ugly loss by the Raptors to Philadelphia Sunday afternoon. This game exposed quite a few flaws with the current crop of Raptors.

The main thing I took from this loss, was the Raptors simply don't play hard enough for all 48 minutes. Another huge problem is Andrea Bargnani's motor - or lack thereof. He just doesn't have the will, hustle, ability - whatever you want to call it - to get on the floor for loose balls, to gravitate to balls coming off the rim, etc. and it kills the Raptors. Especially against a track meet, super athletic squad like the Sixers.
How many times did the Sixers get a second chance Sunday because Bargnani, and occasionally others, failed to corral a ball that was there for the taking? The answer is a lot.

It used to be the Raptors just weren't big enough to get those loose balls. But Bargnani certainly is both tall and sturdy enough to do so. He just doesn't.

Now some teams are simply bad matchups for other teams and when Philly is making shots - their main weakness for a few years now - they are an awful matchup for the Raptors.

Bosh returnes but Thadeus Young to much for the Raptors

Even the return of all-star Chris Bosh couldn't help the Toronto Raptors on Sunday afternoon.

Thaddeus Young scored a career-high 32 points, Jrue Holiday had 21 and the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Raptors 114-101 to snap a five-game losing streak.
Bosh returned from a seven-game absence to finish with 12 points and 12 rebounds, but the Raptors still lost for the fifth time in six games.

The Raptors find themselves struggling to hold on to a playoff spot as they depart for a four-game West Coast trip. Andre Iguodala had 16 points and matched a season-high with 10 assists, Elton Brand had 12 points and nine rebounds and Louis Williams scored 12 for Philadelphia.The 76ers went 9-for-12 from three-point range, including three by Young.Jarrett Jack was the lone Raptor star and had 20 points and nine assists for Toronto. Iguodala gave a meaningful look at the Raptors bench after his fadeaway jumper in the fourth quarter put the 76ers up nine points, 96-87.

Philadelphia's Marreese Speights had to be helped to the locker room after spraining his right knee in the second quarter. Speights was driving to the basket when he stepped on Bosh's foot, then fell over and lay on the court clutching his knee. X-rays were negative but Speights did not return.
The 76ers closed the second quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 55-47 lead into halftime, after that they never looked back

Bosh-Less Raptors Fall to the Young Thunder

Very disappointed in our PGs, not because they got torched by Russell Westbrook – that was to be expected – but because of their inability to control the tempo of the game. We don’t want to go up and down the court with a team like OKC, nobody does, but some measure of control needs to be exacted by our ball-handlers so that the game is played in a framework that could yield success. I can’t even remember the last time the Raptors went run ‘n gun and came out on top, it’s too hard to play that style of basketball with the defensively challenged personnel that we have. Even our offense isn’t suited to that style, with Nesterovic, Bargnani and Turkoglu in the lineup, you don’t want to run, you want to crawl. I wasn’t expecting the Raptors to succeed at that, but wasn’t expecting us to fail miserably either.

Teams like OKC, Charlotte and GSW have always given us trouble because of two things: 1) the tempo they play at and 2) our thinking that we can match that tempo. I was hoping for a first quarter score like 23-18 but instead we gave up a 30+ point first quarter for the fourth straight game by losing it 34-24. The defensive effort got progressively worse as the game along but early on it wasn’t bad; the issue was that the matchups were too much for us to handle, Westbrook on Jack, Green on Bargnani, and Durant/Sefolosha on Turkoglu/DeRozan were all matchups we were losing by allowing dribble penetration. There was no answer for their athelticism and quickness off the bounce and conceding points was always inevitable. The hope was that the offense could keep the game in check and slow the tempo down – no such luck. The only bright spot in the offense were some isolation sequences for Bargnani in the block and some aggressive DeRozan drives.

It was the first time since Bosh has been out that I’ve seen the Raptors go to Bargnani right at the start of the set, good things happened early but as the game wore on, his decision making in the face of doubles and off his drives was poor and his 3 turnovers speak to that. It should also be said that the Raptors didn’t go to him in the second half and that’s partially bad offensive direction by the coach/floor generals and part Bargnani not asking for the ball. In the end our PGs have to recognize that Bargnani isn’t the type of player to demand anything, hell, he doesn’t even ask for his own change back when ordering coffee. They should make it a point to get him going because if they don’t, nobody including Bargnani will. It sucks, but that’s the way it is.

Raptors at rsik of a late season collapase

Raptors have dropped 4 of 5 games and seemed to have lost some focus. The Milwaukee Bucks have passed them for the fifth seed in the East and with Miami, Chicago and Charlotte right on their tails, the race for playoff seeds five through eight in the Eastern Conference will be a battle to the finish. The schedule is only getting tougher and if the Raptors don't buckle down and pick up their game the might very well slip out of the playoff picture

Raptors Take Down Knicks Without Bosh

It was the story of the night, Jose vs Tmac, Calderon at the point of attack Tracy McGrady in front of him, the game pretty much in the balance. Jose blows by Macgrady to the rim for an easy layup time and time again. It was boy against man, young athlete against grizzled veteran and it really was no contest. Weems was another young Raptor who played his heart out and scored a career high 20 point throughly out playing the opposing wing of the New York Knicks including the legendary Tracy Macgrady. But the best part about this victory was that it was without their All-Star CB4 ala Chris Bosh
